WestConn Events - DENIM DAY
In recognition that April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, WCSU will join the Women's Center of Greater Danbury in participating in "Denim Day" to protest sexual assault and talk about consent from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Student Center on the university's Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. Denim Day was originally triggered by a ruling by the Italian Supreme Court where a rape conviction was overturned because the justices felt that since the victim was wearing tight jeans, she must have helped her rapist remove them, thereby implying consent. Since then, wearing jeans on Denim Day has become a symbol of protest against erroneous and destructive attitudes about sexual assault.
