WestConn music professor to perform with acclaimed violinist
DANBURY, CONN. — The spring music season at Western Connecticut State University will open Feb. 13 with a recital on piano and violin by WCSU Music Professor Dr. Russell Hirshfield and world-renowned violinist Richard Rood.
The recital will be at noon in Ives Concert Hall in White Hall on the university’s Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. The recital is free and open to the public. Donations to the WestConn music department will be accepted.
The performance will feature works by Edvard Grieg, Claude Debussy and John Patitucci.
A Grammy-winning violinist, Rood is a leading member of the internationally acclaimed Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, as well as a first violinist of the New York City Opera and the associate concertmaster of the Santa Fe Opera during the summer season.
Hirshfield, recognized by Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers, is an active chamber pianist. He has collaborated with numerous vocalists and instrumentalists, including members of the Detroit Symphony, Slovak Philharmonic, Orpheus Chamber Ensemble, Chicago Lyric Opera, New York City Opera and Cleveland Orchestra.
