WestConn goes natural with holistic health speakers
Presenters to discuss new strategies for healthy living

DANBURY, CONN. — The Institute for Holistic Health Studies (IHHS), housed within Western Connecticut State University’s health promotion and exercise sciences department, will host a series of events this spring to showcase the benefits of holistic health and the importance of making healthy lifestyle choices.

The IHHS provides the university and the broader community with an opportunity to explore holistic health options. The institute’s goal is to promote lifelong, optimal health and well being by encouraging individuals to recognize the whole person: physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

All the events will start at 10:30 a.m. and will be in the Student Center on the university’s Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. The public is invited to attend; a $5 contribution is suggested to support student scholarships and health promotion and exercise sciences department programs. Admission will be free for WCSU faculty, staff and students with valid I.D.

Here’s a look at what’s ahead:

  • On Friday, Feb. 29, in Room 201 of the Student Center, Connecticut native Rob Nevins, nicknamed the “Fat Loss Guru,” will discuss the science behind “The Living Lean Program” and why this fat-loss program has grown in popularity nationwide. Once a competitive athlete, now a personal trainer, Nevins has devoted the last 20 years to the health and fitness industry and has helped thousands of people improve the quality of their health.
  • On Friday, March 28, in Room 201 of the Student Center, Dr. Artemis Morris will discuss “The Mediterranean Diet” and why he views it as one of the healthiest diets in the world. A naturopathic physician and licensed acupuncturist, Morris also is the director and founder of the Revive Wellness Center in New Haven, Conn.
  • On Friday, April 25, in Room 226 of the Student Center, Kaitlyn Pierce will talk about “The Graduate Institute.” The institute was established with the mission of offering exciting graduate programs in emerging fields of conscious evolution, experimental health and healing, holistic thinking, irenic studies, oral traditions and organizational leadership.
