WestConn’s music department to host Mother’s Day concert
University’s symphony orchestra to play Vivaldi to Saint-Saens

DANBURY, CONN. — As a tribute to moms everywhere, the Western Connecticut State University symphony orchestra will perform a concert on Mother’s Day.

The performance, conducted by WCSU Professor of Music Eric Lewis, will be at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 11, at Ives Concert Hall in White Hall on the university’s Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. The performance is open to the public and admission is free, although donations to the university’s music department will be accepted.

The program is as follows: “Fantasia on a Theme of Thomas Tallis,” by Ralph Vaughan Williams; Antonio Vivaldi’s Piccolo Concerto C Major RV 44, Op. 44, No. 11 with soloist Sara Smith; Camille Saint-Saens’ “Introduction” and Rondo Capriccioso Op. 28 with soloist Hafez Taghavi; Darius Milhaud’s Concerto for Marimba and Vibraphone Op. 278, with soloist Jon Churchill; and “Finlandia,” Op. 26 by Jean Sibelius.

Preceding the performance is a Mother’s Day brunch from noon to 2 p.m. in Warner Hall on the university’s Midtown campus. Tickets for the brunch are $15 for adults and $10 for senior citizens and children under 12. Mothers and WCSU students with valid I.D. eat for free.
