Parrini duo to perform recital at WestConn

DANBURY, CONN. — The music department at Western Connecticut State University will bring the accomplished Parrini Duo to the stage on Wednesday, April 2.

Brothers Alberto Parrini, a cellist, and Fabio Parrini, a pianist, will perform a recital that will include works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Ludwig van Beethoven and Johannes Brahms. The performance will be at 8 p.m. in Ives Concert Hall in White Hall on the university’s Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. Tickets are $15 for adults, and $10 for students and seniors. WCSU faculty, staff and students will be admitted free with valid I.D.

Born in Italy, cellist Alberto Parrini has performed throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe and Asia. Highlights of recent seasons include Beethoven’s Triple concerto with the Clemson University Symphony, Vivaldi’s Double Cello Concerto at Bargemusic, recitals with Fabio Parrini in Pennsylvania and South Carolina and chamber music concerts at the Yale Center for British Art, the Society of the Four Arts in Palm Beach, Florida, the Corcoran Gallery and the Library of Congress.

A graduate of the Curtis Institute and the Juilliard School, Alberto Parrini joined the American Chamber Players in 2004 and tours with them throughout the United States. Also, he is a member of the chamber ensemble Proteus. Since 2007 he has served as principal cellist with the Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic. Alberto Parrini spent the 2002-03 season as cellist of the St. Lawrence String Quartet, while teaching at Stanford University. Prior to that, he was assistant principal cellist with the Richmond Symphony.

Alberto Parrini has toured extensively with Mikhail Baryshnikov and the White Oak Dance Project and performed with Continuum, Lenape Chamber Ensemble, New Jersey Symphony, Minnesota Orchestra, Metamorphosen and Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. His festival appearances include Evian, Tanglewood, Taos, Verbier, Ottawa, Montreal, San Miguel de Allende, Spoleto U.S.A., Music@Menlo, The Weekend of Chamber Music and the Piatigorsky seminar. He has taught cello and chamber music at the American Festival for the Arts in Houston and the Kinhaven Music School in Vermont.

Fabio Parrini recently joined Keowee Chamber Music and is scheduled to perform at its 2008 festival in June in North Carolina. He is a Steinway artist, and his CD releases feature solo repertoire and collaborations with violinist Eun-Sun Lee. Other credits include first prize at the national competitions of Galatina, Osimo, and Cagliari in Italy, the Richmond Competition at Boston University, a Fulbright Grant, and a Kahn Career Entry Award. His work, developed mostly across Italy and the United States, includes recordings and radio and television broadcasts, solo recitals, concerto performances, chamber music and collaborative work.

A professor of music and piano coordinator at North Greenville University, Fabio Parrini has taught master classes for the NGU Piano Seminar, the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities, Clemson University, the Longy School of Music, Emporia State University, and the Point Loma Nazarene University Piano Institute in San Diego. His degrees are from the Conservatory of Padua and Boston University.
