Master Plan approved
DANBURY, CONN. — WestConn’s 10-year master plan, calling for broad physical upgrades to both campuses, was approved March 16 by the Board of Trustees of the Connecticut State University (CSU) system.
The unanimous vote followed a presentation by WestConn President James W. Schmotter, who showed the slide show that is available for download on this page.
Under the plan, a performance center to house the new School of Visual and Performing Arts would be built on the Westside campus next to a new parking garage. A pedestrian quadrangle would be designed in place of the existing parking lots between the Westside classroom building and the William O’Neill Athletic and Convocation Center.
On the Midtown campus, Roberts Avenue School would be razed and replaced with another quadrangle. A new residence hall and parking garage would be built, and Higgins Hall, Berkshire Hall and White Hall would be renovated.
As CSU Chancellor Dr. David Carter noted in the meeting, which was held in the Grand Ballroom of the Westside Campus Center, all the university needs is the money to pay for the work.
Carter reported that a bill authorizing hundreds of millions of dollars to pay for construction at the four CSU schools is making its way through committees in the Connecticut legislature.
