Science-at-Night program to celebrate National Engineers Week
DANBURY, CONN. — Will LaRusso, president of Polyflon in Norwalk, a division of Crane Co., will discuss “Cleansing the Environment with Nanotechnology” at 7 p.m. on Tuesday Feb. 26, in Room 125 of the Science Building on the Western Connecticut State University Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. The event will be free and the public is invited.
The event is scheduled during National Engineers Week, and LaRusso’s talk will cover the link between engineering and a commercial organization’s growth and success.
WCSU Assistant Professor of Biological and Environmental Sciences Dr. Theodora Pinou, who invited LaRusso to speak, said she invited him because, “When we think about solving environmental and technological problems, we need engineers.”
Members of the WCSU chapter of Sigma Xi, an international honors society for scientists and engineers, will staff a table containing information about their organization. The meteorology, biology and chemistry clubs also will be in attendance.
Pinou said, “I hope this event will heighten students’ awareness of the field of engineering and give the university community insight into the role engineers play in society.”
Another goal, Pinou said, is to provide the community with information about local corporations. Crane Co. is a global, diverse manufacturer of highly engineered products. Polyflon designs and manufactures microwave laminates, high-voltage RF capacitors and other specialty components for communications, imaging, microwave and radar applications.
