Adult psychology expert to speak at WestConn
DANBURY, CONN. — University of Massachusetts at Amherst Professor of Psychology Dr. Susan Krauss Whitbourne will discuss “Pathways through Midlife: The Results of a 40-year Study on Adult Personality Change” at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 3, in the Student Center Theater on the Western Connecticut State University Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. The talk is part of the “Psych Matters” lecture series and will be free and open to the public.
Whitbourne’s talk will be based on her four decade follow-up of Baby Boomers from college through the midlife years. Students in her lab at UMass-Amherst have been conducting studies on the relationship between identity, stereotype threat and memory in middle and later adulthood.
Whitbourne received her doctorate from Columbia University and has spent most of her career studying adult development. She has published several books on the subject, including “Adult Development and Aging: Biopsychosocial Perspectives” and “The Aging Body: Physiological Changes and Psychological Consequences.” Whitbourne’s work has been featured on the Discovery Health Channel and in an online companion to the PBS series “Discovering Psychology.”
