WCSU to present jazz concert

DANBURY, CONN. — The first jazz concert of the spring semester presented by Western Connecticut State University’s School of Visual and Performing Arts will be at 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 27, in the Ives Concert Hall in White Hall on the university’s Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury.


Performers will include Frankensax and the WCSU Jazz Orchestra, directed by Jamie Begian, coordinator of WCSU’s jazz studies; and the WCSU Jazz Ensemble directed by Dave Scott. The Jazz Ensemble will feature traditional works with faculty and student arrangements.

Frankensax will perform Begian’s composition “Yiorgo’s Dance of Love” and some be-bop classics. The Jazz Orchestra will feature senior pianist/composer Darren Litzie’s arrangement of “Au Private” and Begian’s works “Sorry Officer,” “Marcy Song” and “Tayloration One.”
The concert will be free and the public is invited; donations to support the music department will be accepted.
