January 2011 Orientation

Welcome to Western Connecticut State University's January Orientation website.  

When is January Orientation?                     

January Orientation will be held the Wednesday before classes start, January 19, 2011.  (Snow date: Thursday, January 20, 2011).  Please check our website for weather alerts or tune in to your local TV or radio station for WestConn closings. You can also sign up for our Emergency Notification System.

Where is January Orientation?   

Midtown Campus, Warner Hall

Please park in the 5th Avenue Commuter Parking Garage which is right next to Warner Hall (http://www.wcsu.edu/campustour/).  Signs will guide you to the check-in table where students will receive name tags and information packages. 

What is January Orientation?   

Events:

You and your parents are invited to a special Orientation Session on January 19th at 6:30 p.m. in Warner Hall on the Midtown Campus.  (If you still have questions regarding your class schedule or would like to make any changes to your schedule, staff from the Registrar's office will be available to help you between 4:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. in Warner Hall 318 that evening.  The registration process takes about 30 minutes for each student.  For those of you who arrive early and are looking to eat dinner before the program, there are several restaurants within walking distance of the campus.)

The main program will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a welcome from President Schmotter while dessert is being served.  A group of current students, some of them transfers, will then provide some insight into life at WestConn.  Afterwards you will get a chance to meet your fellow students, your academic dean, and some of the faculty of your school.

Your parents meanwhile will be able to attend an introductory workshop which answers questions and provides suggestions on how best to support you, the student, during your career at WestConn.

6:45 p.m. Formal Welcome by President James W. Schmotter, Interim Vice President for Academic Affairs/ Provost Roy Stewart, Vice President for Student Affairs Dr. Walter Bernstein, and SGA President James Heffner
7:00 p.m. A student panel will answer your questions
7:30 p.m. Student Activity
Parent workshop
8:00 p.m. Students meet with academic deans

January Orientation will be held at the Midtown Campus in Warner Hall on the first floor.  Please visit our directions page, and our campus tour for more information.

If you would like to attend January Orientation, we ask that you please call us at 203-837-9700 with your name, major and the number of people that will be attending, or you could respond online by filling out an RSVP form.

What requirements are there before I am allowed to register?

The following information must be in place before you can register for classes:

  1. make your $200.00 non-refundable deposit
  2. send a copy of your childhood vaccinations to the Health Services Office (fax to 203-837-8583) – include your WCSU ID number on the fax – or bring this information with you when you come to register
  3. you will need to have taken any applicable placement test as noted in your admissions packet (Math, English, and Chemistry)
