EAP Summer Orientation 2006

Letter to Students/Parents (referential)

Dear Student/Parent:

Welcome to WestConn! The Admissions Office has informed me that you have been accepted into the Educational Achievement and Access Program (EAP), and I look forward to meeting with you and your family member during housing check-in, and EAP orientation on July 4th.

You are scheduled to check-in to Fairfield Hall on Tuesday, July 4th, 2006 at 3:00 PM. We realize that this is a holiday, but due to scheduling restraints, it is necessary to attend orientation on that day. Classes will begin on Wednesday, July 5th and end on Friday, August 4th. (Five-weeks). You are required to live on campus during the week and leave on all weekends, with the exception of July 21st - July 23rd, see details below.

For your stay in Fairfield Hall please bring bedding for a twin bed, towels/wash cloths, shower clogs, hangers, a lamp, and other important items to make your stay comfortable. The residence halls are not air-conditioned, so bring your fans, but no air-conditioners- and please leave the televisions, boom boxes and stereos at home! A small clock radio is recommended and acceptable. Laptops and personal computers are allowed in the dorms, but at your own risk and liability. WestConn is not responsible for anything lost or stolen. (Please visit the webpage for the housing department for more details on residence hall regulations and policies.)

The special weekend retreat is scheduled for Friday, July 21st through July 23rd. The July 21st through 23rd weekend will be the only weekend that students will stay on campus - all other weekends, students will be allowed to leave by 1;00 pm Friday afternoon and return by 7:00 PM on Sunday. This special weekend will include "Lion King" Broadway show in New York City and a Great Hollow Wilderness overnight outdoor adventure experience in New Fairfield, CT.

Itinerary - Tuesday, July 4th, 2006

3:00 PM Check in at Fairfield Hall

4:15 PM Orientation for parents and students

5:15 PM Refreshments for parents and students

6:00 PM Parents depart; student orientation/pizza time with Housing/EAP staff

All students should have forwarded a copy of their immunization records to the Health Services Office. Students will not be allowed to stay on-campus if they do not submit the immunization records and proof of meningitis shot by July 4th. By this time, you should have taken your placement tests, applied for financial aid and submitted the appropriate supporting documentation to the Financial Aid Office.

It is recommended that all EAP students attend WestConn's Freshman Orientation week scheduled for June 26-29, based on your selected major. During that week you will have the opportunity to meet your advisor(s), EAP staff, get your student ID, visit the financial aid and housing offices and submit health forms, if necessary.

Enclosed is a map with directions to the college, a tentative daily schedule of activities for the five-week program, Orientation Information, Lion King flyer, Housing Regulations, Health Forms and a Technology Survey. (Please bring survey with you to EAP Orientation) Please note that the Special EAP Summer Awards Luncheon for students and staff is scheduled for Friday, August 4th, 2005 from 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM in Student Center on the Midtown Campus. Students will be available for pickup starting at 1:30 PM on Friday, August 4th.

If you do not plan to attend the summer program, please call or contact my office immediately. No students will be allowed into the program after the July 4th Orientation. If there are special/emergency conditions that may prevent you from attending on July 4th, please call immediately to see if an arrangement can be made.

I look forward to seeing you on Tuesday, July 4th at 3:00 PM.

Sincerely,
