Dr. Walter Bernstein
Vice President for Student Affairs

Walter B. Bernstein is currently Vice President for Student Affairs at the University. Dr. Bernstein holds a BA and MS degree from Queens College, City University of New York. He completed his doctoral work in educational administration at New York University. Dr. Bernstein's background includes seventeen years as Dean of Professional Studies as well as nine years in Student Affairs at WestConn. He has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in Counseling, Communications/Theatre Arts and Organizational Behavior.   Prior to coming to WestConn, Dr. Bernstein held administrative positions at New York University and Ulster County Community College.

Dr. Bernstein has a record of service with the New England Association of Schools and Colleges and the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education. He has served as a member of numerous visiting teams for these national accrediting agencies. He has recently been nominated to serve on the Student Affairs Think Tank sponsored by the New England Resource Center for Higher Education. As Dean of Professional Studies, Dr. Bernstein worked closely with area school districts and the State Department of Education and Department of Higher Education. He has been responsible for helping to develop WestConn's first Freshmen Seminar Course, is currently providing leadership for a campus wide Drug and Alcohol program and continues to create opportunities for academic and student affairs to work together to enhance student life.
