Lorraine Capobianco

Lorraine Capobianco has been with Western Connecticut State University for 22 years. She has been in the current position of CIO since 1997. In addition to various positions in the University's information technology infrastructure, such as developer, system manager, coordinator then director of information and network services, she has taught various mathematics and computer science courses as an adjunct at the university.
As CIO, she is responsible for providing technology leadership to the university, which encompasses instructional technology; academic, student, and administrative computing; information, technical, telecommunication, Web, and training services; the University's Website; and telecommunication security management. Budgeting, purchasing, and vendor management for information technology is also her responsibility. She serves as liaison to the Connecticut State University System Office for strategic technology initiatives. Ms. Capobianco oversees over 30 full-time and part-time, administrative and clerical staff as well as over 30 student employees.
Ms. Capobianco began her career as an educator teaching high school mathematics and computer science. She has also taught computer literacy in adult education programs. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics/computer science from Western Connecticut State University and has worked towards her MBA and master's degree in computer science from the University of Connecticut and the University of New Haven.
Ms. Capobianco participates in regional K-12 technology initiatives and is a member of numerous professional organizations. She has also been a presenter and participated on discussion panels at various information technology conferences both locally and nationally.
