Academic

  • WestConn's first doctoral program, an Ed.D. in Instructional Leadership, began in fall 2003. WestConn is one of 12 schools
    in the nation to offer the degree.
  • In 2001, 21 Bahamian students earned a WestConn Master's
    in Health Care Administration degree offered through the
    College of the Bahamas.
  • WestConn's Institute for Holistic Health Studies offers programs in
    integrative and holistic health to students, the community
    and allied health and nursing professionals.
  • The University Scholars Program offers academically gifted
    students the opportunity to enroll in honors seminars each fall.
  • The Division of Justice and Law Administration offers courses
    such as domestic and international terrorism, advanced
    criminology, and mental health for justice professionals.
  • WestConn's interdisciplinary graduate program in gerontology
    was developed in response to the explosive growth of
    Connecticut's senior adult population and their increasing
    need for a variety of professional services.
  • Since 2000, the art department has offered the Master of Fine Arts. WestConn is the only university in the Connecticut State University system to offer this degree and one of only four schools to offer
    an M.F.A. in Art in the state of Connecticut.
  • The Meteorology program, the only one licensed in Connecticut, offers one of the few college degrees in meteorology in
    New England.

Programs

  • The music department's outreach programs include annual
    music festivals in jazz and percussion. The department also
    hosts summer music camps and provides additional musical
    offerings to public school musicians through the pre-college
    music enrichment program.
  • The art department mounts exhibitions of works by students,
    faculty and alumni throughout the year.
  • The university hosts an annual computer animation festival.
    Sponsored by the Center for Graphics Research, the festival includes a juried student animation competition
    and exhibition.

Distinction

  • WestConn received a National Science Foundation Planning
    Grant to examine the feasibility of a northeast center for
    information security.
