Photojournalist brings exhibit to campus

As the issues of undocumented people living the United States become more heated and complicated, so does David Bacon’s desire to have the entire story told — through pictures. Some of the scenes were on display for two months at Western.

In his photo exhibit “Living Under the Trees,” Bacon shows the human side of the undocumented immigrants who incite passion in those who either support or reject them. The photos show people of different cultures sharing family values and work ethics.

The exhibit was on display from Oct. 10 through Nov. 30, 2011, on the main floor of the Ruth Haas library.

Bacon, who has written a book entitled “Illegal People,” writes that “our national policy (on immigration) produces even more displacement, more migration, more immigration raids, and a more divided, polarized society.” He returned to the university in mid-November to give a lecture on his book.
