Office of the President : Past Presidents

President’s Retirement

September 30, 2003

Dear Colleague:

This letter comes to inform you of my intention to retire from Western Connecticut State University effective July 31, 2004. At that time I will have completed twelve years as President.

In 1992, when Denise and I arrived at the university, we were warmly welcomed into a fine academic community. This welcome has remained constant over the years and is a great source of satisfaction to both of us.

The past eleven years have been memorable ones, academically rewarding and personally fulfilling. Western Connecticut State University has made great strides in the past decade, and I have been privileged to be part of its growth and development. I am grateful to the administration, faculty, staff, students, alumni, and members of the greater Danbury community, whom I have come to know and respect for their support and encouragement in the tasks we have shared together. I am grateful, also, to the Board of Trustees, Chancellor Cibes, and my fellow Presidents for their friendship and professional counsel and support over the years.

As WestConn begins its second century of growth, Denise and I wish you continued success in taking the University to greater levels of academic excellence and community involvement.

Sincerely,
James R. Roach
