Maura Gordon lift Cabrini past WestConn with goal in second overtime
of Drew University Fall Festival.

MADISON, NJ - (Sep. 5) —
Maura Gordon (Lititz, Pa.) netted a hat-trick including the Golden Goal in the second overtime period as the Cabrini Cavaliers topped the Western Connecticut State University Colonials, 3-2, in the opening round of the Drew Fall Festival.
Cabrini scored first through a good individual effort by sophomore Maura Gordon. Gordon carried from just inside the 25 yard line before seeing her first shot saved by Western Connecticut's Heather Stone (Valhalla, NY). Gordon collected her own rebound to stuff home in the 20th minute of play.
Cabrini added a second through Gordon as well. Shannon Muhlern set up Gordon for a close range tally and a 2-0 Cavalier lead.
With 24 minutes left in the game, the Colonials pulled themselves back into it on a goal by Victoria Vitale (West Milford, NJ). Setup by Stephanie Szafran (Killingworth, CT), Vitale was able to tap home from the doorstep. Then they pulled even through Vitale again. From a corner, Meredith Stuart (Washington, CT) fired towards goal. Valierie Lupo (New Fairfield, CT) tipped back across goal where Vitale was able to crash home and tie it at 2-2.
Cabrini keeper Vicky King made a great stop to deny Lupo a goal after three minutes of overtime. Stone returned the favor in the final seconds as she saved a hard shot from Lynda Kaufmann.
Gordon ended it early in the second overtime period as she scored her third of the game for the golden goal after her first two shots were both saved.
