Western bounces back with 8-0 win over Wheelock in home opener
DANBURY, CT (Sept. 2) —
Senior midfielder Nicole Andreasen (New Fairfield, CT) scored three goals and senior defender Deanne Mastrocola (Goshen, CT) scored a goal and assisted on three others in Western Connecticut State University's 8-0 victory over Wheelock College at The WAC on Sunday afternoon.
The Colonials, 1-1 scored three goals in the first half then added five more in the first 25 minutes of the second stanza.
Kim Gigante (Bedford Hills, NY) scored a pair of goals, both coming within 4:23 of each other, in the early stages of the second half.
Elizabeth Vitale (West Milford, NJ) and Heidi Odenwaelder (Goshen, CT) each scored their first goals of the season to round out the scoring for the winners.
Victoria Vitale (West Milford, NJ) assisted on two goals while freshman Jenny Cappello (Litchfield, CT) handed out one helper.
Junior goalie Courtney Hearn (New Fairfield, CT) recorded the shut out, making two saves for Western.
Michelle Green (Mansfield, MA) made 12 saves and faced 37 shots on the afternoon.
Western travels to Elms College on Wednesday, September 5. Game time is slated for 7 pm.
