DaQuan Brooks named to Eastern College Athletic Conference All-Star Team

CENTERVILLE, MA (Mar. 22) — Senior center Troy Whittington of Williams College is the 2010-11 ECAC Division III New England Men's Basketball Player of the Year.

Whittington led the Ephs to a New England Small College Athletic Conference regular season title with an overall record of 29-3 (9-0 NESCAC).

He averaged 16.5 points and 9.0 rebounds per game, second and first on the team, respectively. Ranking second in the conference in blocks per game (2.18), Whittington also led the NESCAC with a 70.9 shooting percentage from the field.

Nichols College freshman Ryan Sheehan has been chosen as the 2010-11 ECAC Division III New England Men's Basketball Rookie of the Year, leading all DIII freshman with 20.1 points per game.

The Bison freshman was named The Commonwealth Coast Conference Rookie of the Year for his efforts this season to go along with three TCCC Rookie of the Week honors.

Joining Whittington on the ECAC first team are Ryan Sharry of Middlebury, Josh Jones of Husson, Lamonte Thomas of Johnson & Wales, DaQuan Brooks (Atlanta, GA) of Western Connecticut State University and Conor Meehan of Amherst.

Sharry averaged 13.9 points and 10.5 assists to go along with 1.75 assists and two blocks per game.

Jones averaged a double-double with 19.2 points and 11.4 rebounds, while

Thomas led the nation in DIII with a scoring average of 30.7, totalling 921 points on the year.

Brooks averaged 21.7 points and 4.5 assists per game, and Meehan shot 52 percent from the field to average 13.5 for the Lord Jeffs.

Five players were also selected to the ECAC second team: Mike Akinrola and Mason Choice of Rhode Island College, Terrence Favors of Becker College, James Wang of Williams College and Jeffrey Robinson of Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
