DaQuan Brooks named to D3hoops.com
Team of the Week for second straight week

NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA (Feb. 14) — Western Connecticut State University senior guard DaQuan Brooks (Atlanta, Ga.) and University of Massachusetts Boston freshman guard Vinny DeLucia (Miami, Fla.) were selected to the latest edition of the D3Hoops.com Team of the Week this evening. Brooks is making his second straight appearance on the weekly five-member national team, while DeLucia is making his debut.

Brooks averaged 42.5 points per game to help the Colonials post overtime victories over Eastern Connecticut and Keene State College. The senior guard from Atlanta, Ga. connected on 43.4 percent (26-for-60) of his attempts from the field to score at least 37 points in each conference contest. On Feb. 7, Brooks poured in a career-high 48 points, including five three-pointers, to guide the Colonials past the Warriors. He handed out the game-winning assist as time expired in the extra session to give Western a key conference victory. Four days later, Brooks recorded 37 points, including 21 over the final 25 minutes, and four rebounds to help the Colonials edge the Owls.

A starter in each of his 23 appearances, Brooks currently ranks among the national leaders in points per game (2nd, 28.6), 3-pointers made per game (7th, 3.5), and assists per game (12th, 6.0). He has reached double figures in scoring in each game, including scoring at least 30 points 10 times on the campaign. Brooks has been the offensive catalyst for Western Connecticut since Dec. 12, registering at least 20 points in his past 13 contests (34.1 ppg). He has dished out a season-high nine assists seven times this winter, most recently at Southern Maine on Jan. 28. Three days later, Brooks pulled in a season-best nine rebounds in a victory over Connecticut College. His well-rounded performances have guided the Colonials to wins in six of their past seven games.
 
DeLucia averaged 26.5 points per game, while shooting at a 52.9 percent (18-for-34) clip from the field in two games this past week for the Beacons. He knocked down a season-high six 3-pointers en route to producing a career-best 29 points against Southern Maine. DeLucia also filled in the box score with four assists and two steals in 34 minutes of action against the Huskies on Feb. 7. Four days later, he scored a game-high 24 points, on 8-for-18 from the floor, at Plymouth State.

DeLucia currently ranks among the Little East Conference leaders in 3-point field goal percentage (2nd, 46.2), assists per game (9th, 3.1), steals per game (10th, 1.4), and points per game (12th, 11.2). His scoring average is the highest amongst all freshmen in the conference circuit. A starter in each of his 23 games, DeLucia was reached double digits in scoring 10 times, including recording at least 20 points three times. He handed out a season-high seven assists against Eastern (Pa.) on Dec. 29, 2011, while pulling in a season-best seven rebounds against Plymouth State on Jan. 10, 2012. 

Western Connecticut (19-4, 9-3 LEC) will return to action at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 14, when the Colonials travel to conference rival Rhode Island College (18-5, 8-4). UMass Boston (5-18, 1-11) will also be in action Tuesday evening, when the Beacons host intra-state rival UMass Dartmouth (11-12, 5-7). Fans can watch all the action live on LittleEast.tv.
