14 Different Colonials Score In WestConn’s 24-4 Win Over Mitchell College

DANBURY, CT (Apr. 9) – Western Connecticut State University used a balanced scoring attack in which 14 different Colonials scored goals to beat Mitchell College 24-4 Wednesday afternoon at the WestConn Athletic Complex. WestConn scored the game’s first four goals, led 11-2 after one period, 17-3 at the half, and were never challenged in a game that marked the team’s seventh win on the season.

Sophomore Adam Lanehart (Redding, CT) led WestConn with four goals and three assists and leads the team with 29 goals scored for the season. Sophomore Andrew Barbieri (Islip Terrace, NY), had three goals and three assists on the afternoon and is now second on the team in both categories with 19 goals and 10 assists. Junior Terry Stroz (Monroe, CT) and senior Jason Dodson (Norwich, CT) dominated action in the face-off circle winning 25 of 30 chances on the afternoon.

Leading the attack for Mitchell College were Zachary Ledvina (New Bedford, MA) with three goals, and Tim Goldberg (Southington, CT) with one goal in a losing effort for the Pequots.

WestConn scored the game’s first two goals in less than one minute, and the game’s first four in less than three minutes. Mitchell answered with two goals, but the Colonials pulled away for an 11-2 lead at the end of the first period. With every player on the WestConn roster seeing significant playing time, the Colonials stretched the lead to 17-3 at the half. A 5-0 third period put WestConn up 22-3, and the final margin of victory was 24-4 in favor of the Colonials. For the game, WestConn tallied 74 shots to 6 for Mitchell and collected 65 ground balls while the Pequots gathered only 13.

Junior Kyle Wood (Hyde Park, NY) earns his sixth win of the season in goal for WestConn, while Jeff Cretella (North Haven, CT) takes the loss for Mitchell College.

With this afternoon’s victory, WestConn’s record now stands at 7-4 on the season (2-1 in the LEC), while Mitchell College falls to 1-5.

WestConn hosts Little East Conference rival Keene State College at the WestConn Athletic Complex on Saturday, April 12th. Game time is slated for 1:00pm.
