WestConn Will Take On Western New England College in First Round of NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Championships

DANBURY, CT (May 5) - The WestConn men's lacrosse team will travel to Western New England College and take on the Golden Bears in the first round of the NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Championships which begins on Wednesday, May 7.  Game time will be at 4 p.m.

The Colonials, 13-6, defeated Plymouth State University, 18-7 on Saturday to win their first Little East Conference championship and the automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.

No. 17 Western New England College battled to a 12-10 victory over No. 14 Endicott College in the championship game of The Commonwealth Coast Conference, also on Saturday.  The Golden Bears are 13-4 on the season.

WestConn ,winners of four straight and six of its last seven games, has a potent offensive trio of Adam Lanehart, Dennis Skarda and A. J. Barbieri. 

Lanehart is among the nation's leaders with 56 goals and is coming off a game-high four markers against the Panthers on Saturday.  He heads the team with 65 total points and has taken 186 shots in his second season. 

Skarda, the LEC Tournament Most Outstanding Player, leads the Colonials with 41 assists and is second behind Lanehart with 55 total points. 

Barbieri follows closely behind with 35 goals and 14 assists for 49 points.

Junior goalie Kyle Wood had an outstanding game in the LEC Championship, keeping the Panthers offense at bay while making 13 saves.   The majority of his stops came in the first half when the Colonials raced out to a 11-3 lead before intermission.

WNEC's offense is led by a trio of goal scorers.  Mike Kelly leads the team with 33 goals along with 19 assists for 52 points.  Joe O'Keefe follows closely behind with 28 goals, 23 assists for 51 points.  Brody Savoie is second on the team with 30 goals and third with 44 total points.

Defensively, the Golden Bears have Chris Body minding the net.  In nearly 741 minutes this season, he has made 157 saves.  His goals-against average is 7.53.

The winner of Wednesday's first round match will travel to St. Lawrence University to take on the 11-2 Saints on Saturday, May 10 at North Country Field in upstate New York in the tournament's second round.  The NCAA Division III Finals will be at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Mass. on Sunday, May 25.
