Ramapo rattles off two late goals in 2-1 comeback win over WestConn

BOX SCORE

DANBURY, CT (Oct. 21) — Rob Santaniello (Oakland, NJ) showed just how lethal he can be. Within seven seconds, the freshman forward assisted on the game-tying goal and scored the game-winner to lift Ramapo College to a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over Western Connecticut State University in men's soccer action on Wednesday night.

From a corner kick on the right side, Santaniello set up Brett Tracey (Mahwah, NJ) with his second goal of the season. The Roadrunner goal knotted the contest at 1-1 with 88:42 remaining in regulation.

On the ensuing re-start, Santaniello immediately stole a pass from the Colonials and raced uncontested 35 yards down the left side of the field before drilling the game-winner past a stunned and helpless Angelo Tsingerliotis (Norwalk, CT). It was Santaniello's team-leading 16th goal of the season.

WestConn took a 1-0 advantage in the 13th minute when Frank Rizio (Monroe, CT) converted an awarded penalty kick. The Colonials were awarded the 12-yard one-on-one attempt after Daniel DaSilva (Danbury, CT) was dragged to the turf by the Ramapo defense inside of the box.

Ramapo, 9-4-2 overall, finished the game with a 19-15 shot advantage, although the Colonials controlled the action for the majority of the contest.

Ian Tighe (Wyckoff, NJ) made five saves for the Roadrunners while Tsingerliotis turned away six shot for the Colonials.

WestConn, now 4-10, travels to Keene State College for a league match on Saturday, October 24. Game time is slated for 1 p.m. with the Owls.
