Five Colonials honored by New England Softball Coaches Association

Luigina Facchini named to First Team

NEWTON CENTRE, MA (May 17) - After leading the Western Connecticut State University softball team to its 10th NCAA Tournament appearance last week, five Colonials were named to the New England Softball Coaches Association Division III All Star Team on Tuesday.

Senior Luigiana Facchini (Norwich, CT) was honored on the First Team while Danielle Basciano (Holmes, NY) and Jackie Zilnicki (Riverhead, NY) reeped Second-Team accolades. Junior pitcher Magen Dargon (Trumbull, CT) and senior third baseman Amy Hartman (Ellington, CT) were selected to the Honorable Mention Team.

The Colonials finished the season with an impressive 28-14 record, finished in second place in the Little East Conference at 7-5, and were an at-large selection in the 2011 NCAA Tournament where they went 1-2 at the Ithaca, NY Regional.
