Five Western softball players named to National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-New England Teams

Danielle Basciano and Luigina Facchini named to First Team... Magen Dargon, Amy Hartman and Jackie Zilnicki honored on Second Team

STARKVILLE, MS (May 20) - Western Connecticut State University's Danielle Basciano (Holmes, NY) and Luigina Facchini (Norwich, CT) have been named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III All-New England First Team while Magen Dargon (Trumbull, CT), Amy Hartman (Ellington, CT) and Jackie Zilnicki (Riverhead, NY) were honored on the Second Team.

Basciano had a .364 batting average. She had 11 doubles and a career-high seven home runs in her third season. The short stop had 27 runs batted in and a .593 slugging percentage. In 140 at bats, she had an impressive .412 on-base percentage with 50 hits, seven walks and reach on five hit batsmen.

Facchini, a senior left fielder, led Western with a .436 batting average. She belted a school-record 12 home runs and drove in 46 runs. She had an impressive .829 slugging percentage, had 10 doubles and scored 31 runs.

Dargon finished with an impressive 20-9 record and had one save. In 180 1/3 innings she had 154 strike outs and a 2.02 earned run average. She allowed 174 hits and completed 21 of 28 starts in her third season.

Hartman, a senior third baseman, was second on the club with a .385 batting average with five home runs and a team-high 18 doubles. She had a .669 slugging percentage and scored a team-best 41 runs.

Zilnicki, a sure-handed center fielder, batted .351 and was fourth on the team with 30 runs scored. She registered a .981 fielding percentage, committing just one error in 69 chances. On the base paths, she was 19 of 20 on stolen base attempts in her third season.
