WESTCONN FINISHES TIED FOR FOURTH IN
2007 LITTLE EAST CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT

Providence, RI‹Bridgewater State captured the 2007 Little East Conference Women¹s Tennis Championship on Sunday afternoon at Rhode Island College. The Bears, who will advance to the NCAA Div. III Women¹s Tennis Championships this spring, finished with 20.0 points, four ahead of the second place Anchorwomen.

Bridgewater State captured four singles and one doubles championship, while the Anchorwomen took one singles and two doubles titles. Salem State won at No. 1 singles to round out the winners.

Top-seeded Salem State sophomore Megan Cote (Milton, MA) defeated sixth-seeded UMass Boston senior Aurora Lormeus (Milton, MA), 7-6, 7-1, to capture the Little East Championship at No. 1 singles.

Top-seeded Bridgewater State senior Angie Bizzozero (Norwell, MA) defeated second-seeded Plymouth State junior Meghan Rodier (Francestown, NH), 6-3, 6-0, to capture the Little East Championship at No. 2 singles.

Top-seeded Rhode Island College freshman Liz O¹Connell (Harrisville, RI) defeated second-seeded UMass Dartmouth junior Becky Bullock (Wrentham, MA), 6-1, 6-3, to capture the Little East Championship at No. 3 singles.

Top-seeded Bridgewater State sophomore Paulina Ucher (Webster, MA) defeated third-seeded Western Connecticut junior Susan Kiselak (Danbury, CT), 6-3, 6-1, to capture the Little East Championship at No. 4 singles.

Top-seeded Bridgewater State senior Alison Tripp (South Dennis, MA) defeated second-seeded Rhode Island College sophomore Jaclyn Eastman (Mansfield, MA), 6-2, 6-1, to capture the Little East Championship at No. 5 singles.

Second-seeded Bridgewater State freshman Danielle Linscott (Uxbridge, MA) upset top-seeded UMass Dartmouth senior Nicole Cross (Dunstable, MA), 6-4, 6-2, to capture the Little East Championship at No. 6 singles.

Earlier in the day, the top-seeded tandem of Rhode Island College junior Meg Funk (Oakdale, CT) and senior Sasha Doonan Rodriguez (Pawtucket, RI) defeated the second-seeded pair of UMass Boston senior Aurora Lormeus (Milton, MA) and sophomore Emily Johnson (Saugus, MA), 9-8 (2), to capture their second consecutive Little East Championship at No. 1 doubles.

The No. 2 and No. 3 doubles championships were played yesterday afternoon.

The third-seeded tandem of Bridgewater State freshman Rachel Elman (Dighton, MA) and sophomore Paula Ucher (Webster, MA) captured the Little East Championship at No. 2 doubles, defeating fourth-seeded UMass Dartmouth freshman Alexi Fiorta (Reading, MA) and freshman Amber Ubertini (Dalton, MA), 8-2.

Bridgewater State Leads After Day One Competition at the
Little East Conference Women¹s Tennis Championships

Providence, RI‹Bridgewater State is currently in first place at the 2007 Little East Conference Women¹s Tennis Championships, hosted by Rhode Island College, with 12.0 points after one day of competition. Rhode Island College is two points off the pace, while UMass Dartmouth, Plymouth State and Western Connecticut have totaled 6.0 points.

The No. 2 and No. 3 doubles flight champions were determined and opening round action of the six singles flights were completed.

The third-seeded tandem of freshman Rachel Elman (Dighton, MA) and sophomore Paula Ucher (Webster, MA) from Bridgewater State captured the Little East Championship at No. 2 doubles, defeating fourth-seeded UMass Dartmouth freshman Alexi Fiorta (Reading, MA) and freshman Amber Ubertini (Dalton, MA), 8-2.

Post led Western Connecticut State to its first two Little East Conference victories of the season, defeating Southern Maine, 7-2, on Oct. 6 and UMass Boston, 8-1 on Oct. 7. The Danbury, Conn. product went a perfect 3-0 at No. 1 singles, including a trio of straight sets victories, this past week. Post combined for a 1-2 mark in top-flight doubles.      

 
WESTERN CONNECTICUT WOMEN’S TENNIS DEFEATS UMASS BOSTON , 8-1

BOSTON, MA – The Western Connecticut State University women’s tennis team defeated University of Massachusetts Boston, 8-1, on Sunday in a Little East Conference match that was played at the Boston College High School courts, adjacent to the UMass Boston campus.  The Beacons fall to 1-7 overall and 0-6 in LEC play, while the Colonials improve to 2-6 and 2-3.

UMass Boston will be in action again on Thursday, October 11 when it hosts Regis College at 3:30 p.m. at the Boston College High School courts, while Western Connecticut State hosts Manhattanville College on October 10 at 3:30 p.m.

		WOMEN’S TENNIS DEFEATS WESTERN 
		CONNECTICUT STATE, 8-1

		

		NORTH DARTMOUTH, 
		MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth’s women’s tennis team won 
		their fifth consecutive match, defeating visiting Western Connecticut 
		State, 8-1, in a Little East Conference match at the UMass Dartmouth 
		Athletic Complex Saturday afternoon.

     The Corsairs won five of the six singles matches to 
		clinch the victory before doubles began. For the second consecutive 
		match, twelve different players saw action as the Corsairs continued to 
		mark their best start since Ralph Perry took over as head coach in 1999.

     Freshmen Amy Lopes (Dartmouth, MA/Dartmouth HS) and 
		Blair Dalrymple (North Attleboro, MA/North Attleboro HS), junior Becky 
		Bullock (Wrentham, MA/King Phillip Regional HS), and seniors Kim Pham 
		(Worcester, MA/Doherty Memorial HS and Nicole Cross (Dunstable, 
		MA/Groton-Dunstable HS) each won their singles matches in straight sets.
		

     “Amy played well in a tough match against Lauren Post, 
		and we were firing on all cylinders today,” said Perry. “We were able to 
		substitute in doubles, and everyone played well, especially Amy and 
		Becky (Bullock).” 

     The Corsairs improved to 5-1 and 2-0 in Little East 
		Conference play with their victory, while the Colonials fell to 0-2 and 
		0-2 with the defeat. UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they 
		visit Simmons Wednesday, while WCSU will host Hunter Wednesday.
