Western volleyball splits two matches at WNEU tourney, record stands at 3-4
SPRINGFIELD, MA (Sep. 8) —
The Western Connecticut State University volleyball team split a pair of matches Saturday afternoon at the WNEU Invitational by dropping another five-set match to Emerson College, before dominating in a 3-0 win over Westfield State University. The Colonials now stand at 3-4 overal on the 2012 season.
In the Colonials' first match of the day, they fell behind Emerson College 2-0 before storming back to take games three and for by identical 25-20 scores. Emerson re-grouped in game five to win 15-9 and claim the 3-2 victory.
In its final match of the weekend, Western dominated Westfield State winning in straight sets, 25-16, 25-13, and 25-14. Senior Paxton Thornton (Sharon, CT) was named to the All-Tournament team at the conclusion of the weekend's event.
The Colonials return to action on Wednesday, September 12, when they host in-state rival Trinity College at Feldman Arena. Game time is slated for 7:00pm.
