DANBURY, CT (Oct. 23) — The Western Connecticut State University volleyball team, led by freshman Paxton Thornton’s (Sharon, CT) 14 kills, extended its winning streak to 11 matches with a 3-1 win over Vassar College Friday evening in the first match of the WestConn Classic at  Feldman Arena.

With game one tied 9-9, junior Danielle Spangler (Simi Valley, CA) stepped to the service line and started a five-point run that forced Vassar to call a timeout at 14-9.  Vassar captured the next point, but the Colonials cruised to a 25-19 win in game one.

In game two, Vassar took control late behind the hitting of Chloe McGuire (Davis, CA) to win by a 25-20 score.

In the third game of the match, WestConn again took control extending a 13-7 lead to 17-7.  Vassar fought back taking the next five points, prompting the WestConn bench to take a timeout.  Coach Poole’s message clearly helped WestConn regain its focus and the Colonials took game three by a 25-17 margin.
