Greg Poole
Head Coach
Sixth Season

Greg Poole was named the Head Women’s Volleyball Coach in March of 2006.

In his first season, the Colonials went 8-16 overall and qualified for the Little East Conference Tournament with a 4-3 record.

In 2007, Western’s record improved to 19-13, 5-1 in the LEC. A year later, the Colonials won 19 games again (19-9) and advanced to the second round of the Little East Conference Tournament.

In 2009, the Colonials went 26-8 and he surpassed the covetted 200-career win plateau and is now 210-158 in 13 total campaigns between Western and Western New England College. In nine seasons at WNEC, the Golden Bears went 136-114.

Last season, Poole guide Western through a 27-9 overall record and advanced to the semifinals of the Little East Conference Tournament after going 4-3 in the league in the regular season.

He is one win away from the covetted 100-win plateau at the Colonials' helm. Going into the 2011 campaign, Poole is 99-53 at Western.

Poole has coached many of his athletes to individual honors and accomplishments within the Great Northeast Athletic Conference and the New England Women’s Volleyball Association (NEWVA). Under Poole’s guidance, twelve players were named to the GNAC All-Conference Teams, one player was named the GNAC Rookie of the Year, one player was named the GNAC Most Valuable Player, and one player was named to the NEWVA senior All-Star Classic.

In the winter of 2008, Poole took Western volleyball to Barbados for an International Tournament for eight days. The team had the opportunity to play against the Barbados National Team and two high-level programs from Canada. The players and coaching staff also had the opportunity to visit and experience many different places of the island and meet many fascinating and interesting people.

“Having the opportunity to bring our players to Barbados to compete internationally and be introduced to a new culture, was an amazing experience for us,” stated Poole. “Because the NCAA only allows an International Tour every three years, we fully expect to take another trip like this one in 2011. We are possibly thinking of returning to Barbados, travelling to Italy, or even Ireland. These international trips are a once in a lifetime opportunity for some of our players, and we want to make sure every player that comes through our program, has that opportunity.”

Poole, a native of Fairport, New York, is a 1996 graduate of Springfield College where he was a member of the men’s volleyball team for three seasons. He has also been the Head Boy’s Volleyball Coach at Belchertown High School (MA) and works various camps and clinics throughout New England.
