Melissa Teel named All-Met Co-Player of the Year

NEW YORK, NY (Apr. 19) —Senior center Melissa Teel (Hamden, CT) of Western Connecticut State University and Tiffany Patrick of Kean University and were named 2010-11 All-Met Division III women’s college basketball Co-Players of the Year Tuesday by the National Invitation Tournament and the Met Basketball Writers Association.

Jimmy Barrett of NYU Poly was selected Coach of the Year.

Teel averaged 18.2 ppg and 12.6 rpg for the Colonials, and was second nationally in Division III with 121 blocked shots (4.3 bpg).

A senior forward from Piscataway, N.J., Patrick led the Cougars with 14.5 ppg, 8.8 rpg, 53 blocks, and was named NJAC co-player of the year.

Joining Patrick and Teel on the All-Met first team: Bri-Anna Lucas, Wm. Paterson; Margaux Pickell, NYU Poly; Carey Hickey, Manhattanville; Monique Salmon, Baruch.

The All-Met second team: April Smith, Wm. Paterson; Jen Mocanu, Mount Saint Mary; Allie Shanahan, Staten Island; Kim Weathers, Old Westbury; Louvinia Hayes, Lehman.

In his ninth season at NYU Poly, Barrett led the Fighting Blue Jays to the Skyline Conference tournament semifinals and a 19-8 record, an improvement from last season’s 12-13.
