Western women blanks Salve Regina at Farmingdale Kick-Off Tournament

FARMINGDALE, NY (Aug 31) — The Western Connecticut State University women's soccer team opened the 2012 season with a 3-0 victory over Salve Regina University at the Farmingdale Kick-Off Tournament on Friday afternoon.

The Colonials dominated the first half, but waited until the final five minutes of the first stanza to ultimately put the game away. When the final buzzer sounded, the Colonials, 1-0, had a 28-9 advantage in shots at goal.

Freshman forward Kelsey Chacho (Plainville, CT) scored an unassisted goal in the 41st minute and Danielle Soucy (Clinton, CT) finished off a corner kick from Jean Yettito (Danbury, CT) with 1:28 remaining before the break to virtually put the game away.

Tracy Sales (Cumberland, RI) added an insurance goal in the 54th minutes off a nice feed from Alexandra Moravsky (Sherman, CT).

Senior net minder Caitlin Avery (East Hampton, CT) made two saves before yielding to classmate Jamie Trayer (Oakville, CT) who also made two stops for the winners.

Salve Regina's Jacqueline McPherson made seven saves for the Seahawks.
