Western dominates Southern Maine on way to 5-0 win

DANBURY, CT (Sep. 15) —  Freshman forward Camille Lawson (Newington, CT) scored a pair of goals, her first two collegiate markers, and the Western Connecticut State University women's soccer team cruised to a 5-0 victory over University of Southern Maine in the Little East Conference opener at The WAC on Saturday afternoon.

In the 20th minute, junior Ariana D'Aurio (Cheshire, CT) put the Colonials on the scored board when she drove in alone from 25 yards away and deposited her team-leading fourth goal of the season.

Lawson put the home team up 2-0 when she finished off a pass from Kelsey Chaco (Plainville, CT) with 20 minutes left before intermission.

Senior Tracy Sales (Cumberland, RI) notched her second goal of the season at the 55:06, 12 minutes before she fed Lawson with her second tally of the afternoon.

Sophomore Alexandra Moravsky (Sherman, CT) added her first goal of the season following a 20-yard pass from Alisan Sartori (Danbury, CT) with just over six minutes left in the game.

The Colonials, 4-1-1 overall and 1-0 in the LEC, received another outstanding performance from their defense, allowing just one shot from the Huskies over the 90 minutes. Western's keeper corps of Caitlin Avery (East Hampton, CT) and Jamie Trayer (Oakville, CT) were not challenged but played an integral part of Western ability to build from the back.

Western had an 18-1 advantage of shots on the afternoon.

Southern Maine, 1-5 overall and 0-1 in the league, split duties between Marissa Temple (Grafton, ME) and Sara Bishop (Hermon, ME) with Temple making 10 of the 13 combined saves.

Western travels to Vassar College on Wednesday, September 19 for a 5 pm match with the Brewers.
