Western captures second dual-meet with a 62-52 win at Hunter College

NEW YORK, NY (Jan. 20) —
The Western Connecticut State University women's swimming and diving team won its second dual-meet of the season, running the Colonials' record to 2-4, with a 62-52 victory at Hunter College Friday evening.
Despite several strong Hawk swims, the Colonials won 10 of the 13 events competed to beat Hunter.
In the 100 yard backstroke, Kathie Meerman took first in 1:05.71 while freshman and reigning CUNYAC Rookie of the Week Chryzl Goco claimed second (1:09.14) ahead of senior Marian Wu who finished third in 1:09.57.
The 100 yard breaststroke also went by way of the Colonials as Danielle Leprine (1:11.74) bested Charlotte Collazo (1:19.66) to take first place.
Colonial Beth Magin kept the Hawks out of first place as she finished first in 1:06.01 ahead of Courtney McEvoy Lee (1:07.91) and Gloria Reyna (1:21.78).
Jess Jahr (12:22.63) and Kayla Deluca (13:17.85) went 1-2 in the 1000 yard freestyle ahead of Paulina Backiel (14:49.39) who settled in third place for the Hawks.
Jennifer Dzurita (2:12.48) and Briana DiGiore (2:17.34) took second and third respectively behind Meerman who finished in 2:07.44 to take first place in the 200 yard freestyle.
Magin claimed her second victory of the night for the Colonials as she took first in the 50 yard freestyle with a 26.83 timestamp, placing Charlotte Collazo (28.30) in second and Tiffany Magno (28.88) in third.
The Colonials took the top two slots in the 400 yard individual medley with Danielle Leprine (4:58.76) and Jahr (5:34.22) going first and second respectively, while Ivanna tellez captured third place for the Hawks with a 5:49.70 timestamp.
McEvoy Lee gave the Hawks their first victory in the 200 yard butterfly as she took first place in a time of 2:46.27 ahead of Reyna who finished second in 3:08.84.
The Colonials saw Magin win her third race of the night as she prevailed in the 100 yard freestyle in a time of 57.98 to best both Dzurita (1:00.43) and Magno (1:03.33) who finished second and third for the Hawks.
Meerman's second victory of the evening followed as the Colonials captured first place in the 200 yard backstroke in 2:23.83, finishing ahead of Goco (2:27.94) in second and Wu (2:33.30) in third place.
DiGiore swam for the Hawks' second victory of the night as she took first in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 6:04.77, narrowly edging Jahr who claimed second in 6:04.77 and Kayla DeLuca who finished third in 6:32.51.
Leprine picked up another victory for the Hawks in the 200 yard breaststroke as she tapped in at 2:39.03 to earn the win while Wu nabbed second for the Hawks with a time of 2:58.92 ahead of Nancy Xu from Western Connecticut who finished third in 3:03.54.
With the Colonials exhibitioning the 400 yard freestyle relay, Hunter's "A" team, including Charlotte Colazzo, Goco, Dzurita and Magno took first with a time 4:06.40.
The Hawks concluded the regular season, 10-5 and 5-1 in the CUNYAC while the Colonials improved to 2-4 on the year with the victory.
