Magin sets team record in the 100 IM, Western finishes in 13th Place
Meerman swims to first-place finish in the 100 Backstroke
WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, VT (Feb. 19) — Sophomore Beth Magin (Brookfield, CT) established a new team record in the 100 Yard Individual Medley with a time of 1:03.91 as the Western Connecticut State University women's swimming team finished in 13th Place after the third and final day of competition at the New England Swimming Championships.
Sophomore Kathie Meerman (Danbury, CT) followed her record-setting Day 2 performance with a first place finish in the 50 Backstroke. Meerman's time of :27.81 was just two 100th's faster than the second place finisher, Katylyn Kelley of Saint Michael's College.
Magin's IM swim resulted in a first-place finish in the Consolation Finals of the 100 IM, ninth place overall for the event. Magin also earned the Colonials valuable points with a 14th place finish in the 100 Freestyle, touching the wall in :56.53.
Western's final swim of the competition came when the 400 Free Relay team of Meerman, senior Jess Jahr (Plainville, CT), Magin, and sophomore Danielle Leprine (New Fairfield, CT) swam to a 12th place finish in a time of 3:47.99.
