Courtney Cochran scores 34 to lead Southern Maine over Western 77-76 in OT

DANBURY, CT (Dec. 10) — Four different Colonials scored in double figures, but Southern Maine's Courtney Cochran (Waite, ME) led all scorers with 34 points and the visiting Huskies defeated the Western Connecticut State University women's basketball team, 77-76, in overtime Saturday afternoon at Feldman Arena.

Cochran also pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds and connected on 13 of 19 shots from the field against the two-time defending Little East Conference champions.

A three-pointer by sophomore Brandt narrowed the gap to 10-6, but the Huskies maintained their lead over the next ten minutes.

Western took its first lead of the game, 22-21, with two minutes remaining in the half, but Southern Maine scored the final five points of the half to take a 26-22 lead going into the locker room at inter mission.

A turnover by Eanniello and a missed lay up by Southern Maine's Jordan Grant (Concord, NH) kept the game knotted and produced the extra frame.

The Huskies scored 12 of their overtime points in the paint including five lay ins by Cochran.

Southern Maine, 6-3 overall and now 1-1 in the Little East Conference, took a four-point lead on the front end of two free throws my by Jordan with 14 seconds remaining.

Western's Murphy converted from inside with three seconds remaining and went to the line with her team down 77-75. She attempted to purposely miss the free throw, but it rolled around and through the net.
