Kathryn Wichman is a senior at Western majoring in Elementary Education with a concentration in Mathematics. Kathryn is an active member of the university Honors Program where she is a merit scholar. She is also a member of the WCSU Education Honors Society and was the 2015 recipient of the Miss. Rumphius Award.
Throughout her time as Western, Kathryn has been an active member of the campus community. In her freshman year, Kathryn became a mentor for the Western Connection Program; a transition program which allows students with disabilities academic, vocational and social opportunities in a college setting. Kathryn also became an active member of the university’s Education Club. In the spring of her freshman year, Kathryn was elected as Treasurer of the Education Club. She has since served as Historian, Vice President, and President. Through the Education Club, Kathryn has also maintained active membership in the Connecticut Education Association – Student Program attending outreach events and conferences across the state.
In the fall of her junior year, Kathryn was fortunate to receive a scholarship to attend the Global Campaign for Education: United States Chapter’s Youth Advocacy Training. The training provides student leaders from throughout the country with information on global education reform and the opportunity to advocate for global education.
Throughout her time at WCSU, Kathryn has spent time volunteering in area elementary schools, and even had the opportunity to choreograph the spring musical at Bethel High School. Kathryn also spends much time tutoring area students, especially the youngest of her seven siblings.
