Faculty Biographical Sketches
Thomas Cordy, Department of Education and Educational Psychology
Dr. Thomas Cordy, who joined the faculty of the Education and Educational Psychology Department at Western Connecticut State University in the Fall of 1993, served as chairperson of the department from 1997-2003. Prior to coming to WestConn, he served in the public schools for 25 years as a special education teacher and as a teacher of the gifted and talented.
Dr. Cordy holds a bachelor’s degree in Special and Elementary Education from the State University College at Buffalo, a master’s degree in Student Personnel Services in Higher Education from SUNY Albany, a sixth-year diploma in Teaching the Gifted and Talented and a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from the University of Connecticut. He teaches coursework in foundations, special education, gifted education and educational research.
Dr. Cordy’s areas of professional interest include: educational reform, urban education, special needs population including Tourette’s Syndrome, and site-based educational research. He is an active member of the University community and has served on numerous committees. Dr. Cordy is currently a member of the Planning Team for the Ed.D. Program in Instructional Leadership.
