Jennifer Ort MS, RNC MN-N, Department of Nursing

Dr. Jennifer Ort joined the faculty of Western Connecticut State University in the fall of 2012. Prior to her arrival, Dr. Ort was Chair of the School of Nursing at Monroe College, and prior to that worked as faculty in an associate degree program as well as an adjunct in several bachelorette programs. Jennifer received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Dominican College, her Maters of Science in Nursing Education from Mercy College, and her Doctorate of Nursing Science in Nursing Education and Leadership from The Sage Colleges. She is certified as a maternal newborn nurse as well as a lactation consultant.

Dr. Ort’s area of expertise is maternal-child nursing, teaching both maternal-newborn and pediatric nursing. At the graduate level she teaches or has taught theory, research, and transition to practice courses. She also works on several doctoral dissertation committees.

Dr. Ort is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI), The National League for Nursing (NLN), and the American Nurses Association (ANA). She writes NCLEX items for the National Council of State Boards of Nursing, and reviews articles and test items for several publishers. Her areas of interest include improving student learning outcomes, curriculum assessment and revision, and diversity, equity and inclusion in the classroom.
