School of Professional Studies

Message from the Dean

A multidisciplinary, professional education school that places student’s learning first, links theory with student teaching and clinical practice, and contributes to the education, health and culture of those in the greater community.

Welcome to the School of Professional Studies at Western Connecticut State University. I am pleased that your interest in teacher education, health, nursing and the social work professions has brought you to our web site. Whether you are curious about undergraduate or graduate studies in nursing or music education, the important research in teaching of gifted children, or the professional and community work being conducted by our faculty and students in Social Work, Wellness Management and Community Health, I am confident that you will find something of interest.

The School of Professional Studies (SPS) is one of the five academic units at WestConn. The School’s undergraduate and graduate degree programs prepare students for careers in nursing, community health, community counseling, wellness management, social work, and teacher education encompassing the areas of school counseling, music, health, elementary and secondary education. The study of these professional programs includes a strong foundation in liberal arts and sciences.

I encourage you to explore our web site and learn more about our School as well as about WestConn.
