Sandra Church
In 1988 Sandra Church joined the New York Philharmonic as Associate Principal Flute. According to Ms. Church, the years seem to have flown by since the day Zubin Mehta first said to her, "Welcome to the New York Philharmonic family!" As Associate Principal, Ms. Church also performs on the alto flute and piccolo.
Over the years, Ms. Church has participated in many recordings with the Orchestra, performing first flute on a number of them, with Mehta, Bernstein, and Masur. As an alto flutist, Ms. Church appears on the Sony Classical recording from ordinary things, music for the voice, by André Previn. Last spring, Ms. Church took part in a recording project with Matitiahu Braun featuring the music of Binnette Lipper. This CD, Horizons, is available through Musicians Showcase Recordings.
Prior to joining the Philharmonic, Ms. Church was Principal Flute with the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra. In the summers she was also Principal Flute of the Chautauqua Symphony, under Joseph Silverstein. Some of the highlights during her earlier career were engagements as an extra musician with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and other New York ensembles, such as Orpheus and the Orchestra of St. Luke’s. In addition, Ms. Church has done extensive studio work for movies and commercials produced in New York. One of her favorite projects was an on-screen appearance in the soap opera All My Children.
A student of Julius Baker, Ms. Church received her Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from The Juilliard School. For many years Mr. Baker has invited her to be a guest artist at his summer masterclasses in Danbury, Connecticut. Ms. Church has served on the Board of the New York Flute Club and performed in many of its concerts in CAMI Hall. She has also written articles for Flute Talk and Windplayer magazines.

Tadeo Coelho is the newly appointed Professor of Flute at the North Carolina School of the Arts. He has served as Associate Professor of Flute at the University of Iowa from 1997-2002 and as Assistant Professor of Flute at the University of New Mexico from 1992-1997. Dr. Coelho has also served as Visiting Professor at the Ino Mirkovich Music Academy in Croatia. Dr. Coelho has appeared as soloist and chamber musician throughout Europe and the Americas. He has performed as first solo flutist of the Santa Fe Symphony, Hofer Symphoniker in Germany and the Spoletto Festival Orchestra in Italy, among others, including guest appearances in the summer of 1996 with the Boston Symphony. For the past four consecutive years, Tadeu Coelho has served as the coordinator of the National Flute Association Young Artist's Competition.

A recipient of many awards and scholarships, USIA/Fulbright, LASPAU and CAPES, Tadeu Coelho received his Doctorate of Musical Arts degree from the Manhattan School of Music, New York, as a student of Julius Baker and Keith Underwood. Started on the flute by his father, Tadeu Coelho also studied with Thomas Nyfenger, Ransom Wilson, Andrew Lolya, and Arthur Ephross. He gave his New York recital debut at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in April of 1992.

Tadeu Coelho is an avid proponent of new music. He has commissioned, performed and recorded works by notable composers. Dr. Coelho is devoted to the publication and propagation of Latin American music and he has written numerous articles as well as published several works of Latin American composers. Coelho can be heard in several solo recordings including: Life Drawing - Works for Solo Flute, Flute Music from Brazil, Flutists of the World and Rompe! 20th Century Mexican Chamber Music for Flute and Clarinet. He can also be heard performing works by Thomas Delio on 3D Classics. Tadeu Coelho is a Miyazawa Artist and performs on a 14k gold instrument with platinum riser.

Bart Feller currently plays Principal Flute with the New Jersey Symphony, and serves as flute faculty at Rutgers University. Previously, he has served as Principal Flute with the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, Memphis Symphony, and the Minnesota Orchestra. In addition to the New Jersey Symphony, Feller has appeared as soloist with the Philadelphia Orchestra, Jupiter Symphony, Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, and at the Colorado and OK Mozart summer festivals.

Feller has been a member of the Norfolk Wind Quintet, performed at the Marlboro Music Festival, with the Chamber Music Society of LIncoln Center, and with the New York Festival of Song. An active recitalist, he has been featured in flute recitals in Texas, Tennessee, New York, and at the Washington and Boston NFA conventions, and performed at the 1996 NFA convention.

Trained at the Curtis Institute of Music under Julius Baker and John Krell, he regularly offers masterclasses to the flute studio at Yale University, and has been a faculty member at Rhodes , as well as the Manhattan School of Music. Bart Feller has also done teacher training in Suzuki Flute Method, and has studied with Toshio Takahashi in Matsumoto, Japan. He has also presented masterclasses in Australia, and at the East Tennessee Suzuki Flute Institute.

Feller has recorded with the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, the Chamber Music Society of LIncoln Center, Bargemusic, and the New Jersey Symphony.

Bradley Garner is an active soloist, teacher and recording artist in the Cincinnati and New York City areas. He has frequently played with the New York Philharmonic and is the principal flutist with the Atlantic Sinfonietta, the New York Virtuosi and the Virtuosi Quintet. He received his B.M. and M.A. degrees from West Texas State University where he studied with his father, Dr. Gary Garner and Sally Turk.


He was the first flutist to receive the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the Juilliard School where he studied with Julius Baker. Dr. Garner has performed as soloist in Carnegie Hall with Julius Baker and Jean-Pierre Rampal and was recently the first American flutist to be invited by the Russian government to perform in Moscow's Tchaikovsky Hall. He has performed in Korea, Japan, Russia, Europe, Canada and throughout the United States.

He is on the faculties of The University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and The Juilliard School. He has given master classes in New York, Korea, Russia and Japan. Master classes for this year are planned for Japan, Russia, France and throughout the United States. His students have won prizes in many competitions including the Flute Talk Competition, Myrna Brown Competition and the National Flute Associaiton High School, Orchestral, Piccolo, Young Artist and Master Class competitions.

Garner has recorded for the Koch International, Capstone, EMI, Golden Crest, Newport Classics, Vienna Modern Masters and the Collins Classics labels. He is a Yamaha performing artist and clinician.

Canadian flute virtuoso Susan Hoeppner is a musician of international renown. Flutist James Galway hails her as "one of the best talents of her generation."

Ms. Hoeppner has performed as a guest soloist with orchestras around the world. Susan is also in great demand as an international solo recitalist, performing in Japan, Europe, North America and South America.

She has garnered praise from many artists. Her mentor Julius Baker says "Miss Hoeppner is one of the finest young flutists with whom I have worked". The international press has also been outstanding in their acclaim. The Washington Post noted that "one can almost hear the words in her flute song". La Razon of Buenos Aires called Susan Hoeppner "an innate musician and an instrumentalist of beautiful and radiant sound."

Susan Hoeppner has numerous recordings which appear on EMI Classics, Grammophon AB BIS, JVC Victor, Marquis Classics and King Records. The most recent recording on EMI Classics, Serenade, features works for flute and orchestra. Her upcoming recording will showcase works by American composers for flute and piano.

A graduate of The Juilliard School, Ms. Hoeppner is currently a member of the University of Toronto's Faculty of Music. As the Canadian Performing Artist for Yamaha, she tours extensively throughout Canada giving masterclasses.

Canadian flutist Jeffrey Khaner joined the Philadelphia Orchestra as Principal Flute at the beginning of the 1990/1991 season following his Principal position with the Cleveland Orchestra from 1982 through 1990. Prior to his appointment in Cleveland, Mr. Khaner served as Co-Principal Flute of the Pittsburgh Symphony, the Principal Flute of the Mostly Mozart Festival in New York and the Atlantic Symphony in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

As a soloist, Jeffrey Khaner has appeared with the Montreal Symphony, the Milwaukee Chamber Orchestra, the Mostly Mozart Festival, the Atlantic Symphony and, on numerous occasions, with both the Cleveland and Philadelphia Orchestras. During the 1999/2000 season, Mr. Khaner appeared in recital with Maestro Wolfgang Sawallisch accompanying him at the Convention Center in Philadelphia, performed the Liebermann Flute Concerto with the Philadelphia Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Sawallisch and made his much-anticipated Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall debut with pianist Charles Abramovic. During the summer of 2000, Mr. Khaner will reprise the Liebermann Flute Concerto under Charles Dutoit at the Saratoga Festival and make a special performance of the Liebermann Flute Sonata accompanied by Lowell Liebermann himself. Exciting future engagements include recitals with pianist Charles Abramovic throughout North America and Canada and chamber music recital performances with the Syrinx Trio (comprised of Elizabeth Hainen de Peters, harp, and Roberto Diaz, viola) and with classical guitarist Jason Vieaux.

A graduate of the Juilliard School where he studied with Julius Baker, Jeffrey Khaner has been a faculty member of the world renowned Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia since 1985. He has given masterclasses and recitals throughout North, South and Central America, Europe and Asia. Mr. Khaner has also participated as a performer and teacher at the Solti Orchestral Project in Carnegie Hall, the Grand Teton Festival, the Pacific Music Festival and the Sarasota Music Festival. Gary Schocker
Biographical details only hint at the real story of this fascinating and creative performer. Gary Schocker is indeed one of the finest flutists performing today. But he is also a noted pianist and a prolific composer, having written musicals, award-winning works for the clarinet and for the flute, and a wide variety of other material. He is the most published living composer of music for the flute in the world.

His poetic and virtuosic flute playing has brought him great critical acclaim. Performances feature Schocker's work as a recitalist and concerto soloist, and in duo with guitarist Jason Vieaux. He also frequently performs programs of music for unaccompanied flute. He offers both standard works and new works, including his own concertos with orchestra (Green Places, Airborne, and Regrets and Resolutions).

Schocker has performed with such orchestras as the New York Philharmonic, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Dallas Symphony, the West German Sinfonia and I Solisti Italiani. He has collaborated with many artists on stage, including Pinchas Zuckerman, Michael Tilson Thomas, Earl Wild, Jessye Norman, Julius Baker, James Levine, James Galway, Bruno Canino, Oscar Shumsky, Eduardo Fernandez, Jean-Philippe Collard, and the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center.
