Save Time ~ Save Money ~ Get College Credit with CLEP

About College Level Exam Program (CLEP)

Whatever your reasoning for wanting to accelerate your path to a college degree, there is a College Level Examination Program, better known as CLEP test for you. The College-Level Examination Program® (CLEP) helps you receive college credit for what you already know, for a fraction of the cost of a college course.

CLEP recognizes that students may have acquired knowledge equivalent to that taught in introductory college level courses through work experience, reading, research, or other activities. By demonstrating knowledge through CLEP, a student may qualify for college-level credit without having to attend the course. Western Connecticut State University (WCSU) follows the guidelines recommended by the American Council on Education (ACE) for awarding students credit for CLEP. Test credit is applied according to WCSU transfer credit policy at the time the scores are received and are normally posted to the student transcript within three weeks of the exam.

CLEP Testing at WCSU Testing Center

WCSU Testing Center is an open testing center, that is, any candidate from WCSU or other institution properly registered, may test here.  WCSU Testing Center administers most CLEP examinations however WCSU accepts only selected CLEP exams. To view the list of CLEP exams accepted/credited by WCSU click here.

Each CLEP is a 90 minute computer-based multiple-choice exam.  Acceptance of CLEP exams varies among institution. Advanced permission may be required for some CLEP examinations, so be sure to check with your academic advisor before registering for a CLEP.

Generally, CLEP exams are administered at WCSU one Saturday per month except for summer months. In the event that the dates posted is not convenient, you may schedule an Alternative Testing Date at an additional fee upon availability of the proctor and by appointment only. Currently, Alternative Testing Dates during the academic sessions are not available until further notice.

Registrations forms are accepted until one week prior to the posted test dates and upon availability. Once we receive your completed registration form with payment and it is approved, you will receive a detailed confirmation letter with the date selected, time and pertinent information prior to the selected test date.  All communication from the Testing Center is conveyed through email including confirmation letters.

CLEP Fees:

There are two separate non-refundable or transferable payments for each CLEP exam; an administration fee payable to WCSU and an exam fee payable to College Board (CLEP).  The administration fee is to be submitted with the registration form payable by Money Order or walk-ins may pay in cash.

The College Board requires candidates to create an account and pay the examination fee via their on-line portal prior to the confirmed test date.

·         To create an account with the College Board (CLEP) visit: https://clep.collegeboard.org/started (refer to Step 3).

·         Once you register and make your payment, you must print your CLEP payment voucher to present at check-in; without this voucher you will NOT be allowed to take the exam.

·         IMPORTANT: WCSU Testing Center recommends registering with the Center prior to paying the examination fee to insure availability for the selected testing date. Registering with College Board does not guarantee a spot at WCSU Testing Center.
