Anthony De Poto received a B.A. in Theatre Arts
from Western Connecticut State University in 2009. After receiving his
degree he was accepted to Minnesota State University in Mankato, Minnesota
to work on an M.F.A. in Acting and will graduate in May of 2012. During his
time at WSCU he interned in the education department at Hartford Stage and
currently he is working in Minneapolis at the Guthrie Theater in the
education department. It is here at the Guthrie Theater he helps TA
performance classes and works administratively with various teaching
artists. At the university he teaches an undergraduate acting class called
"Acting for Everyone". This class is designed for business, elementary and
secondary education majors to learn how to speak and interact with others in
a classroom setting. While at MNSU he received two Kennedy Center of Performing Arts nominations for acting, and this past Spring MNSU's production of The Odyssey performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. He says, I am very grateful of the knowledge and skills I have received at WCSU, it was there I found passion for theater arts. I originally entered WCSU seeking to earn my Bachelors in secondary education, then I changed it to elementary education. Though I was not satisfied with what I was doing, I auditioned for As You Like It and was put in the show. I always wanted to perform and be involved in theatre but was too worried of the job security of it. It was talking to the professors in the theater department at WCSU and their guidance that led me to realize to follow my dreams and desire to pursue theatre. It is because of these professors that made me want to attend grad school. Eventually my goal is to become a professor at a university." Anthony can be reached at depoto.anthony@gmail.com |
