New Visual and Performing Arts Center

The new facility, expected to be complete in 2014 will house a 350-seat theater, a 150-seat black box theater, a 350-seat concert hall, an art gallery, a recording studio and state-of-the-art rehearsal, classroom and studio art facilities.

Chip Machokas

[Sound Engineering]

Charles Machokas (Chip) is a professional Audio Engineer with extensive video, multi-media and large scale entertainment credits.  He is the Technical Director at the Waterbury Arts Magnet School,  Sports and Entertainment Technician at Mohegan Sun Casino, and a freelance Audio Engineer.  Chip’s professional audio experience has led him to work with musicians such as: Dizzy Gillespie All-Star Band, the Tito Puente Orchestra, Los Angeles Guitar Quartet, Diane Schuur, Dave Brubeck, John Scofield Quartet, the Dave Holland Nonet , Arturo Sandoval and Chic Corea.  He has directed IMAG video for Artists such as the Moody Blues, Sting and Annie Lennox. As well as IMAG camera operator for the artists Boston, Chicago, Yes, Jethro Tull, Tony Bennett, Steely Dan, Earth Wind and Fire, Herbie Hancock, James Brown, Tower of Power and is also the WNBA Connecticut Sun IDS Stats Manager.

Chip’s many talents include mentoring technical theatre students at the Waterbury Arts Magnet School. He trains students in the art of sound reinforcement and audio production. He allows students the opportunity to advance their knowledge in professional theatre by training them on the proper techniques necessary for quality sound.  His main-stage credits include: Into the Woods, In the Heights, Esperanza Rising, , A Christmas Carol, 42nd Street, Joe Turner’s Come and Gone and numerous Dance, Band, Orchestra, and Choral Concerts.  Chip manages the six performing venues at the Waterbury Arts Magnet School that average approximately 60  in-house productions per school year and the technical theater students that crew these events and serves as Technical advisor and sound engineering for the larger shows the school performs at the Palace Theatre in Waterbury, CT.

Chip is proud to support the WCSU Theater Department in the roles of Adjunct Instructor for Sound Design, Faculty Advisor, Assistant Technical Director, and freelance sound designer.  Chip’s Berkshire Hall production credits include: Chicago, Spring Awakening, Into the Woods, Sweeney Todd, Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, City of Angels, Cabaret, and The Who’s Tommy.  Chip can also be found working with the WCSU Music Department as Lead Sound Engineer for Jazz Fest for the past 14 years.
