Musical Theatre B.A.

This is a specialized degree in collaboration with our fine Music Department that will give students a comprehensive knowledge of and training in all aspects of musical theatre.

The program includes acting, dance training, Individual voice instruction, music theory, keyboard competency, auditioning techniques, voice and diction, theatre history and other courses related to the field.

Auditions for the Musical Theatre Program

The Musical Theatre program is currently the only program that we require auditions for.  In order to audition for the Musical Theatre B.A., you must first be accepted to the University as a pre-Musical Theatre student.  Once you have been notified of your acceptance, you can call the Theatre Department secretary at 203 837 8250 to schedule your audition time.  

Auditions will be March 10 at 9 am. Changed from Feb Feb. 11, 2012.

Audition Requirements and Guidelines

  • You will be asked to sing sixteen bars of a ballad and an uptempo song.  An accompanist will be provided. 
  • You will also be asked to perform a monologue of your choice. 
    Please make certain that your material shows your vocal and acting range. 
  • You will also be asked to learn a short dance combo and may be asked to do an improvisation. 
  • There will be a series of skills assessment exams in sight singing, ear training and music theory (for placement purposes.)

Acceptance to the Program

Within two to three weeks of your audition date, you will receive notice of whether you have been accepted to the program, put on the waiting list for acceptance or denied acceptance.  If you are on put on the waiting list or denied acceptance to the program, you will be automatically acceptance into the Theatre Arts Department as a performance major, unless you notify us otherwise.  Admission to any of our programs is official once you have put down a $200. non-refundable Admissions deposit.  For those living on campus, a $250 deposit for housing is also required.
