Albert Owino – Assistant Professor

Albert Owino joined Western Connecticut State University in January 2005 with a background in teaching, research and operational meteorology from different institutions and universities.

In 1981, Dr. Owino graduated from the University of Nairobi, Kenya with a degree in meteorology. He worked on weather forecasting and analysis with the Kenya Meteorological Services for a number of years.

In 1989 he obtained an M.S. in Atmospheric Sciences from the University of East Anglia, U.K.

In 1997 he obtained a Ph.D. from the University of Pune, India on Mesoscale Climate Modeling.

Dr. Owino worked on an African Demonstration Project for two-years at the African Center of Meteorological Applications for Development (ACMAD) in Niamey, Niger as the Head of the Numerical Weather Prediction Unit. After this, Dr. Owino joined the University of the West Indies in Jamaica for postdoctoral research on Climate Variability and Change over the Caribbean Region.

Currently he is involved in collaborative hurricane research with the University of the West Indies.
