John, a native of Lehigh Acres, Florida, has been interested in meteorology since he was a kid. He used to fight with his sister on Saturday mornings as she wanted to watch cartoons and he wanted to watch The Weather Channel. He personally experienced Hurricane Bob, Superstorm '93, the Blizzard of '96, Hurricane Sandy, and numerous other major storms in Florida, Connecticut, Kansas, and Minnesota. He is fascinated by the incredible power of the forces that bring us the weather we have, and how small that makes him feel. He is particularly interested in how the weather affects transportation systems and infrastructure, especially aviation. John has a degree in Chinese language and history from Saint Olaf College, and is a former professor in the Departments of Foreign Languages and Linguistics at Zhejiang Normal University and East China Normal University in China. He left China because he believed the weather in Shanghai was too boring, which led him to WCSU. John currently lives in Stratford CT with his wife, Yvonne, and his grandmother, Grace.
