Global climate studies start close to home for Connecticut native

Getting involved in something that could “rock our world” is what initially interested Western senior Kelley Bradley in meteorology. When looking at colleges, Bradley knew she wanted a solid meteorology program, but the Cromwell resident also wanted to stay close to home.

I chose Western for its great program and its closeness to my home ... I knew that by coming here I would be recognized and respected, and not be just a name on an attendance sheet.Bradley said that as soon as she learned about Western’s meteorology program, Weather Center and state-of-the-art Science Building, she knew her dreams would become reality. Bradley said without the university’s quality meteorology program, she likely would have relocated to another part of the country. Western’s meteorology program is the only such program in Connecticut, and one of only a few in the Northeast.

“I hope to someday be able to predict something like a major climate shift and play a role in such a historical event,” said Bradley, a 2010 recipient of the WCSU Alumni Association Scholarship. “I think studying global warming is very important and interesting due to its increasing prevalence and its potential to become catastrophic in the future.”
