Women and Revolutionary Rhetoric
Dr. Lakatos will discuss the significance of women who have influenced various national revolutions from the late eighteenth century to the present through their use of language and rhetoric. |

Women’s Suffrage Centennial
This student panel will present their work on the role and relationship between women and societal institutions within the larger context of social movements, policy change and collective memory. Panelists include: Kelsey Caviola, Shannon McDonald and Patrick Shea. In recognition of the centennial anniversary of the Women's Suffrage March of 1913 in Washington D.C., artifacts from the WCSU university archives will be on display on the first floor in the Ruth Haas Library throughout the month of March. |

Marci Geller is an Indie/Folk piano-based contemporary singer-songwriter whose latest CD, "Open Book", is garnering airplay on radio stations across the country. She has performed on "Live with Regis", "Good Day NY" and "Fox Morning Show" and her music can be heard in a wide range of TV soundtracks. WCSU students will celebrate great historical women in this Story Slam event. Winners will compete in the CT State Storytelling Festival in New London at the end of April. |

Die Verlorene Ehre der Katarina Blum
This German language film, "The Lost Honor of Katarina Blum" is a Volker Schlöndorff film in cooperation with Margarethe von Trotta, after a narrative by Heinrich Boell (1975) who received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1972. One of the very first Frauenfilme (women films), Katarina Blum offers a ground-breaking look at women's issues. |
| T Mar 19 | Exotic Pinups, Magnetic Divas and Beloved Icons in Hollywood and Nazi Cinema
In this lecture and film presentation, Dr. Bakhtiarova will discuss the ways that stardom and sexuality were constructed in Hollywood and in Nazi Germany through "hot" tropical settings, outlandish music and exotic dancing which defined and shaped the image of "love goddesses," "sex symbols" and "bombshells". The lecture will be followed by a screening of Gilda starring Rita Hayworth. |

This film explores how the media's misrepresentations of women have led to the underrepresentation of women in positions of power and influence and have overemphasized appearance and sexuality. |
