WCSU Young Writers Conference
August 3-7, 2009 at WCSU Midtown Campus
Come join our community of writers for five days of fun, friendship and learning about the craft of writing. You can choose from four workshops geared to your individual interests. Each workshop will be led by a faculty member from WCSU's Department of Writing, Linguistics, and Creative Process along with young, enthusiastic writing majors.
Pick from four workshops:
- College Admissions Essay Workshop: With fierce competition for seats in universities and colleges, the admissions essay if more important than ever before. In this workshop primarily for rising seniors, participants will focus on developing engaging essays that will catch the attention of admissions officers.
- Fiction Workshop: Participants will study the fundamentals of fiction writing, focusing on developing style and voice, and workshop their own fiction pieces with other young writers, and WCSU writing department faculty and writing majors.
- Poetry Workshop: Participants will explore traditional and nontraditional poetic forms, learn about the elements of poetry and workshop their own poems with other young writers, WCSU faculty and writing majors.
- News Writing Workshop: Participants will learn the basics of journalism, examine trends in online news forums, and design and write for a conference newspaper.
