In both paintings and drawings, he cuts his materials, adds pieces, and piles up layers, resulting in textured, bas-relief surfaces.<\/p>\n<p>Lewis received his BA from Wesleyan University and his BFA and MFA from Yale University where he was a Danforth Fellow. In 2005, he received a Guggenheim Fellowship. He has been a teacher and critic at many prestigious institutions, among them Kansas City Art Institute, American University, Smith College, Yale University, and The New York Studio School.
